Third Grade Boy Becomes Best Friends with Cat Who Plays Video Games With Him

A 9-year-old boy found himself getting lonely during his first socially distanced school year.

Little did he know, he was about to make a new friend…a fuzzy one!

Keep reading to discover how a four-legged stranger became a young man’s best friend when he needed one the most.

A Rough Start

Jax’s third grade year had started on the wrong foot.

2020 was going to be his year to shine.

He was an excellent student who loved school and all the activities that came along with it.

But this year would be different. Jax’s school was starting the semester online.

This meant he’d see his classmates and teachers on a computer.

While he understood why this was the best decision, it broke his heart knowing he wouldn’t be able to make new friends or see his old ones.

Meanwhile, Jax’s mom had a big surprise for him…

Mom to the Rescue

Tiffany, Jax’s mother, was heartbroken by how lonely her son was.

Like any good mother, she was determined to put a smile on her son’s face.

As the owner of a local caretaking and pet sitting business, Tiffany had raised Jax to have a deep love and respect for animals.

He loved all animals – dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.

At only 9 years old, Jax had learned so much about animals.

Tiffany had a brilliant idea – Jax would be her special pet sitting assistant!

“Since he could do school online, I figured he could come with me to visit clients and their pets,” said Tiffany.

Jax was so excited! He happily accepted his mom’s offer.

It was during one of their job visits that Jax met a very special client…

Love at First Sight

Tiffany introduced Jax to Toby, her newest client’s cat.

Toby had warm green eyes, squishy pink toes, and soft orange fur that Tiffany described as “peaches and cream.”

The first time they met, Toby greeted Jax with nudge on the leg and gentle kiss on the nose.

Toby was immediately fond of Jax. The two bonded instantly.

“He was really nice to me. I think he needed a friend too,” said Jax.

From that day forward, it was official – Jax and Toby were best buds!

The Adventures of Jax & Toby

Jax and Toby now play together for hours. They can’t get enough of each other!

“We have 3 cats at home that Jax also loves, but not as much as he loves Toby,” said Tiffany. “They just clicked in a really special way.”

They like to chase each other, roll around on the floor, and occasionally play a gentle game of tug-of-war with Toby’s many toys.

After an exciting day of activities, Toby and Jax like to wind down and relax by watching a movie or playing a game on the iPad together.

Toby enjoys screen time just as much as Jax does!

“I have games just for Toby. He likes the one with the fish and he’s really good at it!” said Jax. “I think he would do even better if he had thumbs.”

A Special Bond

But it’s not all fun and games for Toby and Jax.

In fact, Jax is even learning a thing or two about what it takes to be a responsible cat owner.

He helps his mom brush Toby, feed him, and clean his litter box.

“Now if only he would clean the litter boxes at home! I guess Toby is special,” Tiffany joked.

When it’s time to focus on school, Toby perches next to him and patiently waits for his friend to finish his school work.

Jax has quickly become Toby’s favorite human.

In fact, Toby’s owner is a little jealous!

“Toby will cry for hours when Jax has to go home,” Tiffany told National Kitty. “My client says he doesn’t do that for anyone else!”

Toby isn’t the only one who feels the heartache.

After each goodbye, Jax can’t wait to go back to work with his mom and see his favorite furry friend.

Luckily, Toby’s owner loves seeing Jax and Toby together. Jax can come visit Toby whenever he’d like!

Best Friends Forever

Toby and Jax share a special bond. Toby was there for Jax when he needed him the most.

When Jax was asked how his relationship with Toby would change when school opened up, he said, “I’ll still see him. I’m never gonna leave him. He’s my friend and I love him.”

Jax will never have to worry about being lonely with Toby by his side.

These two will enjoy many more action packed days together as an adorable team!
