In a small, rural town in Arkansas, a senior cat’s fate hung in the balance.
Keep reading to discover how a dramatic turn of events brought him from the brink of despair to a life filled with love and care!
A Shocking Discovery
Nom Nom, a sweet 17-year-old cat, had lived his entire life in a cramped camper with a dozen dogs.
Upon hearing about this, a local shelter was quick to intervene.
However, Nom Nom was very fearful of his rescuers. He’d never seen or interacted with anyone beyond the confines of the camper.
To make matters worse, Nom Nom was elderly and in poor health.
The shelter wasn’t confident they’d be able to afford his medical treatment, much less find him an adopter if he survived.
But fate had other plans. Just when the shelter thought Nom Nom was a lost cause, Community Cats of Central Arkansas (CCCA) stepped in to help.
Newfound Hope
Sarah Richardson, rescue coordinator for Community Cats of Central Arkansas, recalls the moment she laid eyes on him.
“He was in horrible shape,” said Sarah, painting a picture of a life marked by neglect and hardship.
He was a mere shadow of what a healthy cat his age should look like.
He faced a myriad of health issues, including diabetes, dehydration, severe malnourishment, and a host of infections.
His veterinary assessment was grim. Vets suggested euthanasia, but Sarah was determined to see Nom Nom thrive.
“We decided he was a good candidate for our senior cat program,” Sarah explained.
The Journey to Recovery
Nom Nom faced an uphill battle to recover from a lifetime of neglect.
His journey to wellness would not not be an easy one, but Nom Nom was in luck.
He finally had people who were willing to provide him love, care, and encouragement.
Because of this, Nom Nom developed a strong will to live.
Nom Nom’s Transformation
Nom Nom began to show remarkable improvement after receiving daily insulin treatment and a nutritious diet.
“He’s much more stable and has gained 2 pounds! He’s growing stronger every day” Sarah shared. “We’re so proud of him!”
Not only was he physically feeling and looking much better, but his fear started to melt away.
He grew to love and trust the kind-hearted people taking care of him.
Nom Nom’s true personality started to shine through, showing his playful, affectionate side.
“His timidness has melted away. He’s as sweet as could be,” Said Sarah, celebrating the emergence of his true, gentle nature.
Living Happily Ever After
Nom Nom’s progress has been nothing short of miraculous.
He will spend the rest of golden years in a loving, long-term foster home where he’ll continue to be supported by CCCA’s senior cat program.
“The senior cat program provides care for senior cats that will require long-term specialized care for the rest of their lives,” Sarah explained.
Unlike the cramped camper Nom Nom spent the majority of his life living in, his foster home is cozy, comfortable, and safe.
He’s even made a couple feline friends! He has become very smitten with the 2 cats living alongside him in his foster home.
His golden years, once clouded by neglect, now shine brightly with the promise of endless love and care.
Nom Nom’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference compassionate individuals and donors can make in the lives of animals in need.
National Kitty and Community Cats of Central Arkansas are incredibly grateful for those who donated and continue to donate to the senior cat program.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without your help, rescuing cats like Nom Nom would not be possible.
Supporting Senior Cats
Sarah is a strong advocate for senior cats; she has witnessed countless cases of them living much longer than veterinarians anticipated.
Senior cats deserve just as much of our love and compassion as younger cats.
Their age does not make them any less endearing; rather, it enhances their charm with wisdom and grace gathered over the years.
Most surrendered senior cats spend their final moments in a cramped shelter, frightened and alone.
Instead, their final years should be spent in a loving home where they feel safe and cherished, surrounded by soothing voices and familiar faces.
By donating to the senior cat fund through the Meow Mail program, you’ll help senior cats live longer, healthier lives and ensure that when the time comes, they will cross the rainbow bridge in a dignified, peaceful manner.
A Voice for The Voiceless
Donations benefit Community Cats of Central Arkansas, a small 501(c)3 non-profit that rescues and rehabilitates cats that are victims of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment in a rural part of Arkansas with high animal cruelty rates and limited resources.
