Twin Kittens Rescued from Hoarder Almost Went Blind – Can’t Stop Purring with Gratitude

A litter of 5 feral kittens were found in critical condition in a hoarding situation.

The volunteer who rescued them was not able to take them into her care, so she had to think quickly to find them the care they needed.

Keep reading to find how these sweet orange babies on the verge of going blind were rescued from an uncertain fate.

Rushing to the Rescue

The woman who found the five kittens brought them to Stephanie Spence, a professional kitten rehabber and founder of Community Cats of Central Arkansas.

When they were brought in, all of them had terrible respiratory and eye infections.

In fact, their eyes were in such horrible condition that their rescuer thought they were blind.

Once Stephanie took a closer look, she determined there was a chance their eyesight could be restored if the infection cleared.

If Stephanie didn’t respond fast, these kittens would go blind.

They’re Twins!

Stephanie concluded the two ginger kittens were identical twins.

There wasn’t a single distinguishing feature between them – they looked exactly the same!

Three of the kittens responded well to the treatment, but the ginger twins were only getting worse.

“We did a round of antibiotics eye cream, and three of them responded marvelously,” Stephanie shared. “The two ginger twins, though, kept getting worse and worse.”

While three of the litter mates were well on their way to recovery, Stephanie was struggling to find a treatment that would work for the two ginger kittens.

Determined to Find a Cure

After the first round of antibiotics was completed, the ginger twins’ eyes only seemed to have gotten even worse. 

Stephanie was very concerned. This was a big problem, especially when combined with their respiratory infections.

To add to the chaos, they were having difficulty eating.

Their respiratory infections made it so they couldn’t smell food. With their eyes closed up from infections, they couldn’t see the food either!

Stephanie was having to clean their eyes before every meal to get them to eat and take their medicine.

Because it was so difficult to get them to eat, they had lost almost a third of their body weight while trying to recover. 

Restoring Hope

Stephanie had never seen anything like this before.

The medicine she had always used in the past had failed to do its job and she needed to act fast.

So, she started researching other medications to see if those might work.

It was a success! The ginger twins’ infections started to clear after given the new medicine, Vetropolygin.

After weeks of trying medication and seeing no results, this new medication seemed to be working a miracle!

“It was the first time I had ever used that eye cream before,” Stephanie said. “It’s now in my medicine cabinet for life, because it was amazing.” 

Close to Recovery

The kittens are now 8-9 weeks old and all on track to be fixed and adopted.

The first three to be cleared of their eye and respiratory infections show no signs of having a rough past.

They’re very playful and plump!

The orange twins, while a little behind, are on the right track!

They’re gaining back the weight that they lost now that they can see and smell their food.

“Confidently I can say that they’re going to be perfectly happy, healthy, and adoptable kittens,” Stephanie said. “Other than their eye infections that are clearing up quickly, they’re really healthy.”
